Guha Ray family hail from Kanchantala, in Jangipur sub-division in the district of Murshidabad. Their ancestral house was located on the bank of river Ganges. The predecessors of the Guha Ray family were employed with the then Nawab of Murshidabad, Murshidkali Khan. They continued in the employment of the Nawab till the time of Sirajudullah. Since they hold important posts in the court of Alibardi Khan, they were much favoured for their efficient service to the Nawab and was awarded a Jamindari in Kanchantala and also in Dhulipahari of Santhal Parganas. The family goddesses of Guha Ray family still is Mangal Chandi who was worshipped in Kanchantala and Kalimata in Mirjapur in Jangipur. The family goddess, Mangal Chandi had vast properties as 'Debottor Sampati' for her worshipping expenses.
Subsequently, much of their properties and Mango Gardens were destroyed due to erosion of the Ganges. The ancestors of Guha Ray family were not that loud and strong enough to keep their Jamindari intact. They lost almost all of their landed properties in the course of time. All their glories were lost with the erosion of Ganges. It was a tale of riches to rags over a period of 100 years only.
